New News Channel Launches in Afghanistan

KABUL, August 21: The new TV station Lemar has launched in
Afghanistan, delivering news and current affairs programming.

The privately owned and operated network is a sister channel
to Tolo TV. “At Lemar our focus is on independent reporting of local, regional
and international news and events,” said Saad Mohseni, the director of Lemar.
“We will combine news with in-depth reporting and current affairs, as well as
other programming with educational themes.”

Mohseni continued, “Lemar’s inception is recognition of the
growing information needs of Afghan audiences. We know from our experience with
[the radio station] Arman and Tolo that Afghans are hungry for apolitical,
independent and reliable coverage of news and events.”

Lemar will broadcast news services in Pashto, Dari, Urdu and
English. It will reach the same national and regional audiences as its sister
stations via free to air terrestrial on channel UHS 31 and will be available
via satellite from September 1.
