48 young people as they progress through the stages of film production at MTV's
48fest, Staying Alive's first
film competition, held in conjunction with the 2006 International AIDS
Conference in Toronto last August. At the competition, the participants,
representing 27 countries across Africa, Asia, Canada, Europe, Latin America,
and the U.S., were challenged to write, shoot, edit and deliver a three-minute film
about HIV and AIDS related-themes, all within 48 hours.

"Young people continue to lead the way in fighting HIV
and AIDS on a global scale," said Bill Roedy, the president of MTV
Networks International. "This new Staying Alive documentary mobilizes
youth from around the world to creatively tackle HIV and AIDS prevention
through the art of filmmaking."

Roedy, who is also a UNAIDS Special Representative and chair
of the Leadership Committee for the Global Media AIDS Initiative, continued,
"The media continues to be one of the most important means to deliver
life-saving HIV-prevention messages. I would like to challenge broadcasters and
content distributors across all platforms to utilize Staying
Alive—48fest
to do just that—on
TV, PC and mobile screens worldwide."
