Doctor Foster Being Remade in Russia

BBC Worldwide has licensed the format for Doctor Foster to Star Media for a local adaptation to broadcast on Russia 1.

The 8×1-hour series has yet to be titled in Russia. Kseniya Rappoport will take the lead role.

Produced by Drama Republic, Doctor Foster follows in the footsteps of Mistresses, which was also remade by Star Media. The show was created by Mike Bartlett.

Sumi Connock, the creative director of formats at BBC Worldwide, said, “Doctor Foster has transfixed audiences around the world and changed perceptions of dinner parties everywhere. I’m really looking forward to seeing a Russian take on one of the most successful U.K. dramas of recent years.”

Vlad Riashyn, CEO of Star Media, said, “The power of the writing, universality of the subject matter and success of the English-language original all make this a compelling and very exciting series to bring to Russian audiences.”

Daria Lavrova, executive producer at Star Media, said, “What initially seems to be a straightforward plot turns into a complex psychological thriller full of moral ambiguities and shifting allegiances. There has never been such a complex and controversial heroine on Russian television as Doctor Foster.”
