Doc & Lifestyle Winners Announced at Gemini Awards

TORONTO: At the first of two Gemini Awards Industry Gala evenings, winners were named for the documentary and lifestyle categories. 

Hosted by Jian Ghomeshi, a total of 26 awards were presented at The Sound Academy in Toronto, Ontario. Best biography documentary program went to Peace Warrior, while best documentary series was CBC News: The Lens. X-Weighted was named best general/human-interest series. In the way of history documentary programs, China’s Earthquake: The People in the Pictures took top honors. 

16:9 The Bigger Picture won out as best lifestyle/practical information segment, and Holmes in New Orleans was named best lifestyle/practical information series. The Young Romantic won in the best performing arts program or series or arts documentary program or series category. The award for best host in a lifestyle/practical information or performing arts program or series went to Ambrose Price for The Decorating Adventures of Ambrose Price

The Academy Achievement Award went to Allan King. The Canada Award went to Club Native.

The 24th Annual Gemini Awards will conclude with the Broadcast Gala on Saturday November 14 at the BMO Centre, Stampede Corral in Calgary, Alberta. Comedian Ron James will host the event, which will air on Global and Showcase at 9 p.m.
