Banff Announces Non-Fiction Award Winners

BANFF: The Rockie Award winners in the non-fiction categories were named for the 31st Banff World Television Festival and nextMEDIA.

“The Rockies celebrate outstanding television programming, and in this case, exceptional non-fiction programming,” said Georges Leclere, executive producer of the Banff World Television Awards.

In the entertainment arena, Pitchin’ In: Shrimp won for lifestyle and information program, while Famous, Rich & Homeless won for best reality format. There were nine awards presented in the documentary segment. For wildlife and natural history, the winner is Life. The win for history and biography program went to The Miracle of Leipzig. Art and performing arts went to In a Dream, while social and humanitarian was picked up by The Queen and I. How the Earth Was Made scooped up the Rockie for environmental program, and Waste: The Nuclear Nightmare won for best investigative and current affairs program. Iran and the West was recognized as the best political documentary. The award for popular science and technology went to The Music Instinct: Science and Song. Ton Sijbrands: Checkers Player Despite All Consequences won for the best sports documentary.

The win for best Francophone documentary was awarded to Les vrais gagnants.
