AfterShock Comics Welcomes New Film & TV Exec

AfterShock Comics has brought international programming and acquisitions veteran Dan Shires on board as VP of film and television for the U.K.

Shires is tasked with introducing AfterShock content to U.K. broadcasters, working in tandem with his U.S. AfterShock counterparts to create global content and finding and working with international partners.

Shires brings to AfterShock two decades of broadcasting experience, having worked for Universal and Disney, and ultimately serving as director of programs and acquisitions at Fox Networks Group, where he was responsible for the U.K. and sub-Saharan Africa. There he was instrumental in building the company’s partnership with AMC, which culminated in the global co-production of the hit The Walking Dead.

“It’s with great pleasure we welcome Dan Shires into the AfterShock family at a time when our creator-owned content is catching the attention of producers, broadcasters and storytellers on the international stage,” said AfterShock’s CEO, Jon Kramer. “AfterShock is committed to securing and negotiating the best possible opportunities to have our creators’ stories adapted for audiences around the world, and Dan’s vast experience and success shaping ideas for TV and film combined with his passion for comics will be invaluable in helping AfterShock navigate the foreign marketplace.”

Shires added, “I’m thrilled to be joining the AfterShock team to bring their fantastic IP to producers and broadcasters on the international stage and help the company become a global one. AfterShock produces a broad range of exceptional comics, working with some of the most highly regarded creators in the business. What makes it all the more exciting for me is that, as a lifelong comics geek from Prog 1 of 2000AD in 1977, my career has now merged with my obsession—I don’t think I could have dreamt up a better job if I’d tried.”
