NEW YORK: A+E Networks is increasing the distribution of the A&E channel with launches in German-speaking Europe, Iberia and Africa this fall.

The network is set to add a further 10 million households to its footprint across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal and Portuguese-speaking Africa, following a rebrand from BIO. The move marks the debut of A&E in Africa. The rebrand of BIO to A&E in German-speaking Europe is planned for late September, while the rebrand in Iberia and Africa will take place in early October.

A&E features franchises such as Wahlburgers, Duck Dynasty, Storage Wars, Barry’d Treasure, Bad Ink and Big Smo. The channel will also feature locally commissioned productions and local acquisitions.

“These A&E launches will significantly strengthen our channel portfolio across German-speaking Europe, Iberia and Africa,” said Dean Possenniskie, the managing director for EMEA at A+E Networks. “In the U.S., A&E is recognized as a leading creator of quality content that features one-of-a-kind characters and fresh, innovative storytelling. We are very pleased to bring this acclaimed programming to a wider audience in EMEA.”
