More China Toys Recalled Over Lead Paint Fears

WASHINGTON, D.C., August
23: Two other American toy companies, Martin Designs and Schylling Associates,
have recalled China-made merchandise over concerns about lead contamination,
including SpongeBob SquarePants
address books and Thomas and Friends spinning tops.

The Martin Designs recall
involved 250,000 SpongeBob SquarePants address books and journals sold between June 2006 and July 2007. The
Ohio-based company said that the metal spiral bindings on the address books and
journals could contain excessive levels of lead.

Massachusetts-based Schylling
Associates has recalled tops and pails featuring Thomas and Friends and Curious George. Surface paints on the wooden handles of the tops
and pails contain excessive levels of lead. The products were sold at specialty
toy stores and gift shops from July 2001 through July 2002. About 66,000 tops
and 4,700 pails are involved in the recall.
