Network Ten Appoints First General Manager of Digital Media

SYDNEY, July 6:
Australia’s Network Ten has appointed Damian Smith, currently the CEO of the
Australian software company Nuix, to the newly-created role of general manager
of digital media.

“Damian has rich and
varied experience in digital media, technology, senior management and business
development,” said Grant Blackley, TEN’s CEO, to whom Smith will report. “TEN
already has a wealth of content and resources that we are progressively
deploying in various platforms. Damian is the ideal executive to harness those
strengths and to build and lead the team progressing our opportunities in the
digital media environment.”

TEN’s digital assets
currently includes the website for Big Brother Australia, the country’s number-one TV program website,
according to Hitwise Australia. Further, the station has begun to offer streams
and downloads of programs, including the season finale of Thank God You’re
Here,
and has recently launched a
mobile service for Sports Tonight
for 3 mobile subscribers.

"Much of TEN’s core
demographic was ‘born digital’, and with outstanding content already at hand,
we’ve got a great position to build something unique that also reflects TEN’s
great strengths and disciplines," said Smith.
