YTV Orders More The Next Star

TORONTO: Tricon Films & Television has scored a second-season commission from YTV in Canada for the kids’ talent format The Next Star.

Fifteen new hour-long episodes will be produced of the superstar-seeking talent show. Along the same lines as the first season, the new cycle is focused on finding the next music star, whether the task be a vocal challenge, mastering a media interview or nailing down a signature look. In addition to distributing the finished show worldwide, Tricon owns the international format rights.

Carrie Mudd, the VP of distribution and development at Tricon Film & Television, said: "This show really captured the viewers’ imaginations on its first run, and we’re looking forward to bringing it back for a second time with YTV. Internationally, this is an original and extremely adaptable format; we could see The Next Star in a variety of industries. We’ll be talking to broadcasters at MIPTV about extending the scope of the series in new markets."
