YouTube Extends Rev-Share Options

SAN BRUNO: YouTube is extending its revenue-sharing partnership program to individual videos on the site that attract a large number of viewers.

The YouTube Partnership Program (YPP) was first focused on prolific users who regularly produce videos reaching a wide audience, and was occasionally extended to individual, popular videos. A YouTube blog post noted: "These individual video partnerships recognize the role popular "one-off" videos play on YouTube, and have helped many people earn thousands of dollars a month as their videos went viral and endured over time.
We decided it was time to spread the wealth."

Criteria that will be used to determine if a view is eligible for the revenue-sharing program include the number of views, the video’s virality and compliance with the YouTube terms of service. If a video is eligible for monetization, the creator will receive an email and see an "Enable Revenue Sharing" message in their account settings. Once that option is enabled, YouTube will sell advertising and pay a revenue share into a Google AdSense account each month. For now, individual video partnerships are available only in the U.S., but an international rollout is on the horizon.
