YouTube Adds Anti-Piracy Technology

SAN BRUNO, October 16: YouTube has launched its
much-anticipated fingerprinting technology to remove copyrighted content from
the popular video sharing site.

Google-owned YouTube has come under intense pressure from
content owners frustrated with pirated TV shows and movies making their way
onto the site. Viacom is in the midst of a $1-billion law suit against the
company, filed earlier this year.

According to press reports, the technology allows
rights-holders to remove pirated content from the site, or to sell advertising
around the clips if they choose to let them remain on YouTube. The technology
reported discovered 18 copyright violations during a 10-day test period with
one of the trial participants.
