Walt Disney Doc, Frontline Films Headline PBS International’s MIPCOM Slate

BOSTON: PBS International is set to bring a new documentary about Walt Disney and films from Frontline to MIPCOM.

Walt Disney delves into the complex life and legacy of Walt Disney and features rare archival footage from the Disney vaults. It also features interviews with biographers and historians, as well as animators and designers. The documentary has been sold to several broadcasters, including RTE, Tele-Quebec, SBS, NHK and NRK.

“Disney is an icon, and this film from American Experience is an unprecedented look at his life and legacy,” said Tom Koch, the VP of PBS International. “In addition to the broadcasters already on board, we are receiving new offers every day.”

The two-parter United States of Secrets from Frontline producers Mike Kirk and Martin Smith and their teams won two Emmys, including the award for best documentary. PBS International’s slate also includes Through a Lens Darkly, Seven Wonders of Brazil, Are You Smarter Than Your Pet?, Ebola: Death in a Village and Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies.

“We’re delighted and honored to be representing some of the finest 2015 documentaries from PBS,” said Betsy LeBlanc, the director of PBS International. “These contribute significantly to the caliber of docs we already represent from public broadcasting and from independent producers around the world.”
