Opening Night Party Set for Carlton Tonight

CANNES: The MIPCOM Opening Party will be held at the Carlton Hotel from 8:30 p.m. tonight, with the staff of Reed MIDEM and the Palais des Festivals working quickly to recover from the disruption caused by this weekend's storm.

Due to logistical reasons stemming from this weekend's flooding in Cannes, MIPCOM canceled the traditional opening night red carpet. "The Grand Hyatt Cannes Hotel Martinez is not in a position to host the red carpet," the MIPCOM team said in a statement. "We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the exceptional circumstances that are beyond our control."

The party, meanwhile, sponsored by TRT, will go ahead at the Carlton from 8:30 p.m. "This evening will be memorable thanks to examples from Turkish cuisine and artists' performances," said Ibrahim Caglar, president of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, at this morning's press conference opening MIPCOM. Turkey is the country of honor this year.
