Virgin Media Preps Job Cuts

LONDON, November 11:
British cable platform Virgin Media is planning to eliminate about 2,200
positions by 2012 as part of a restructuring initiative.

The move is intended to
improve the efficiency of the business and improve cash flow by up to £120
million a year. The majority of the layoffs are expected to
be made between the late 2009 and the end of 2010, reports indicate.

"These changes are
critical to ensuring Virgin Media is positioned to compete effectively and
deliver on our customers' changing expectations," Neil Berkett, the
platform's chief executive, is quoted as saying. "Over the coming weeks
and months, we will be developing more detailed proposals for their
implementation."
