Viasat Adds HDTV in Baltic Region

STOCKHOLM: Viasat Broadcasting has launched its first high-definition offering on its pay-TV platform in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania: National Geographic Channel HD.

National Geographic Channel HD was part of the initial lineup when Viasat originally launched its HDTV offering for Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland in January 2008. The HD service has now been extended in the Baltic Region, and is available to subscribers who have an HD-ready set-top box and the Gold package.

Ulrik Bengtsson, the CEO pay-TV for emerging markets at the Modern Times Group, said: “High-definition television provides a significantly improved viewing experience, with crystal-clear picture quality and vibrant colors. After our initial successful HD launch in the Nordic region it is logical that we extend it to the Baltic region too. It reflects our commitment to the region and to bringing our subscribers the best and highest quality TV entertainment. National Geographic Channel HD is the perfect channel for the introduction of HD in the Baltics.”
