VH1 to Adapt Single Ladies Movie into Series

NEW YORK: VH1 and Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment have aligned to bring the new movie Single Ladies, shot this past summer, to television as an eight-episode scripted series.

Single Ladies is a comedic drama about three best friends with different philosophies on sex and relationships. It stars Stacey Dash as an aspiring fashion model who wants to find a true partner, LisaRaye McCoy as a former video dancer in search of a rich man to keep her in style and Charity Shea as a woman who is finding out that the perfect marriage may not actually exist. The series is set to start production later this year. Both the series and the movie are slated to premiere in July 2011.

"This movie and now the series is the perfect way for VH1 to jump into the scripted arena," said Jeff Olde, the executive VP of original programming and production for VH1. "It taps directly into relationship issues and life questions that we know our audience loves, and it does it via a gorgeous, funny, diverse and talented cast of strong female characters. Their complex lives and loves play out against a super hip Atlanta backdrop which is sure to be a character in the movie. Once we saw an early cut of the movie we knew right away we needed to make this a series."

Executive producer Queen Latifah added, "My partner Shakim and I are excited to collaborate with VH1, as they have a similar vision on how to bring this show to life. I think Single Ladies will really fill a hole in what is needed on television today."
