Verizon Tests Twitter TV Widget

NEW YORK: Verizon is testing a new application for its FiOS TV service that would show a stream of real-time posts from micro-blogging site Twitter related to what the viewer is watching.

“This seems to be an experience people really want,” said Jen Byrne, the director of business development for Verizon.

Currently in Beta testing, the Twitter TV "widget" would display posts from people all discussing the same series or event as it airs. This comes on the heels of an earlier announcement this week from Reveille and Brillstein Entertainment Partners about plans to develop the first worldwide TV series to use Twitter to guide the action of the show.

The online social-networking site has also seen a big push from telecom companies, with users sending status updates via text messages and reviewing updates from friends from their mobile devices.
