UTV Preps Drama Series on Mahatma Gandhi

MUMBAI, August 13: India’s
UTV Television is looking to sign on American and British broadcast partners
for a new series it is producing with Smriti Irani Productions about the life
of Mahatma Gandhi.

Announcing the new drama,
Irani, a famous face in Hindi-language soap operas, noted: “Though his
sacrifices have been chronicled on screen before, we would also like to
highlight the sacrifices made by his family, a story largely untold. We would
also be shooting on the actual location to give [it the] authenticity it
deserves.”

UTV, one of India’s most
prolific producers of Hindi-language serials, has not yet released information
on casting or the local broadcast partner.
