Univision Names New Executive VPs

NEW YORK: Univision Communications has appointed Maelia Macin as executive VP of network sales for Univision Networks, while Peter Lazarus becomes executive VP of sales strategy for New Networks.

In her new role, which will be based in New York, Macin will oversee all advertising sales and marketing operations for Univision, TeleFutura and Galavisión networks.

Macin joined Univision in 1992 and most recently served as a senior VP and regional director of the southwest region for Univision Local Media. In this position, Macin was responsible for the sales, news, marketing, online initiatives and community outreach for KMEX-TV Univision 34 in Los Angeles, as well as the company’s local TV assets in Phoenix, Tucson and San Francisco.

Lazarus has been named to executive VP of sales strategy for New Networks and will be based in New York, working closely with the Univision Networks and the company’s distribution sales and marketing teams.

Lazarus has been with Univision since 2008 and merged three sales teams into one to represent the overall Univision Networks offering. Prior to Univision, Lazarus was at IMG Sports and Entertainment, serving as senior VP of sales and business development.

Both Macin and Lazarus will report to David Lawenda, the president of advertising sales and marketing for Univision Communications.

With her at the helm, our Network Sales team is poised for great success in 2011 and beyond,” said Lawenda. “Since he joined the Company, Peter has led the Network Sales team through three successful Upfronts and the 2010 World Cup. He will now focus his energy on the sales strategy for our expanding portfolio of networks, including the newly acquired TuTv networks.”

Meanwhile, Alberto Mier y Terán has been appointed to VP/general manager for the company’s stations in Los Angeles. He previously served as VP and general manager for WGBO Univision 66 and WXFT TeleFutura 60 in Chicago.
