The Nordic streaming service Viaplay is slated to launch in the U.S. on December 15, hosting more than 1,100 hours of premium Nordic series and films.

The service will initially be available on Comcast’s entertainment devices, including Xfinity X1, Xfinity Flex and XClass TV. At launch, viewers will have access to Viaplay originals such as Partisan, which won Best Series at Canneseries 2020, as well as third-party Nordic films and series.

Viaplay is set to have at least one premiere every week, with the aim of releasing 60 originals in 2022.

The platform’s U.S. launch expands its global reach to ten countries, with six more set to follow by the end of 2023. Viaplay is slated to launch in the Netherlands on March 1 and in the U.K. during the second half of 2022. Canadian, German, Austrian and Swiss launches will follow.

Anders Jensen, president and CEO of Nordic Entertainment Group, said: “Our small corner of Europe produces some of the world’s most compelling stories. We create special shows that have both style and substance and that have been embraced by audiences and critics. At the same time, Hollywood stars like Mads Mikkelsen and Alicia Vikander have helped put the Nordic region even more firmly on the map. There is a receptive audience of Nordic drama fans waiting in the U.S. for Viaplay’s unique offering, which will bring the best of Nordic storytelling to the world’s most dynamic streaming market.”
