U.S. Presidential Debate Draws 84 Million Viewers

NEW YORK: According to Nielsen, around 84 million people tuned in to watch the first debate of the 2016 presidential election on Monday.

Though coverage varied by network, 13 aired live coverage from approximately 9 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. Upwards of 18 million people watched the debate on NBC. ABC saw 13.5 million viewers, CBS drew 12.1 million, Fox News drew 11.4 million, CNN drew 9.9 million, the Fox broadcast network drew 5.5 million and MSNBC drew 4.9 million. On Spanish-language television, 2.5 million viewers tuned in on Univision and 1.8 million on Telemundo.

There were 17.1 million Twitter interactions from 2.7 million people in the U.S. related to the “Presidential Debate” on Monday, according to Nielsen.
