LOS ANGELES: FX has placed an order for season five of The League, a hit comedy series about a group of friends participating in a fantasy football league.

Produced by FX Productions, the series stars Mark Duplass, Stephen Rannazzisi, Nick Kroll, Paul Scheer, Katie Aselton and Jon Lajoie. It is created by Jeff Schaffer and Jackie Marcus Schaffer, a married couple, who are also serving as executive producers and directors.

The 13-episode new season of The League is set to debut in the fall, with production planned to commence in the summer.

"The League is flat-out one of the funniest shows on television," said Nick Grad, the executive VP of original programming for FX Networks. "Co-creators Jeff and Jackie Schaffer have such a perfect take on the material and the show has an amazingly talented ensemble cast of stars. Another season was an easy decision and we hope to have it on our schedule for many more years to come."

Schaffer added: "It’s a dream job—we get to make a show we love with a brilliant cast on a fearless network. If the Mayans and Dirty Randy are right and the world ends…. at least we can say we made it to season five."
