LOS ANGELES: HBO has given the go-ahead to a second season of the Dwayne Johnson-fronted series Ballers.

Created by Stephen Levinson, who executive produced past HBO shows Entourage and Boardwalk Empire, the series stars Johnson as a former football superstar trying to reinvent himself as a financial manager for current players in Miami. The show kicked off its first ten-episode run on June 21, with the premiere logging almost 9 million viewers across HBO-branded platforms.

“The charismatic and hugely talented Dwayne Johnson, along with the rest of the Ballers cast, has truly struck a chord with the HBO audience,” said Michael Lombardo, the president of programming at HBO. “We are thrilled with the overwhelming response the series has received and look forward to another exciting season.”
