LOS ANGELES: Critical Content is the new independent studio launched by Tom Forman from the television assets of Relativity Media.

Critical Content was formed in October 2015, when an investor group led by Anchorage Capital Group purchased Relativity’s TV assets out of its restructuring. Forman, previously CEO of Relativity TV, will serve as CEO and will partner with industry veteran Andrew Marcus, former president of Relativity TV, who will serve as president and COO of Critical Content. The company is launching with $75 million in growth capital to fuel the expansion of its business.

Critical Content currently has 50-plus projects in production for more than 30 different networks. Series include Limitless (CBS), Home Free (FOX), Catfish (MTV), The Woodsmen (HISTORY), Pretty.Strong. (Oxygen), Boonies (Nat Geo), The Great Food Truck Race (Food Network), Tia Mowry at Home (Cooking Channel) and Car Matchmaker (Esquire).

Initially, Critical Content will expand upon the company’s existing “Pod Model,” whereby producers receive capital investment and access to infrastructure to supercharge their development and production capabilities.

“There’s never been a more exciting, more fulfilling, and more dynamic time to do what we do: create great content,” Forman said. “With only a few remaining truly independent production companies, we are well positioned to capitalize on a historic time in the entertainment industry. I am excited to pursue this opportunity with a remarkably talented and creative team with an awesome track record for big ideas and top-notch execution. Critical really is the best of all worlds—fully independent, totally nimble, and very well financed.”

“I couldn’t be more excited about the launch of Critical Content as Tom and I continue to collaborate with many of the industry’s top creative minds,” said Marcus. “We are humbled to be able to continue working with such world class talent and financial partners like Anchorage and are looking forward to expanding our team and these strong relationships worldwide.”
