Regis Philbin to Host International Emmy Awards

NEW YORK: The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has lined up Regis Philbin to host the 40th International Emmy Awards, to be held November 19 in New York City.

Philbin has been in the TV business for more than 50 years. He has served as host of LIVE! with Regis and Kelly, Live with Regis and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, among other television credits. In September 2011, Philbin broke his own Guinness World Record for most hours on camera on U.S. television.

“Regis Philbin brings great credibility to the role of our 40th anniversary Gala host,” said Bruce L. Paisner, the Academy’s president and CEO. “After all, he was part of the television landscape when we started the Gala in 1972. He was, and continues to be, one of the most successful talk-show impresarios in the history of television.

During the event, Emmys will be presented in nine programming categories along with two special awards. Glee creator Ryan Murphy will receive the International Emmy Founders Award, while Dr. Kim In-Kyu, the president and CEO of the Korean Broadcasting System, will receive the International Emmy Directorate Award. Actor/director Alan Alda and writer/producer Normal Lear will both be presented with special Founders Awards.
