Paula Kerger, the longest-serving president and CEO of PBS, has inked a five-year contract extension with the U.S. public broadcaster.

Kerger has led PBS for 13 years. Under her leadership, PBS has evolved with the digital age, connecting to the 21st-century viewer by embracing new tech platforms, while preserving a high level of public trust. PBS celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2020. She is currently the only woman leading a national broadcast network.

Kerger said: “I believe so strongly in the purpose and power of public television: the content that makes a difference in peoples’ lives; the conversations that bring people together; the programs and resources that prepare our youngest learners for success. Public television isn’t just relevant—the work we do has never been more important. And I’m excited about what lies ahead.”
