Oscars Ratings See Eight-Year Low in Overnights

NEW YORK: Last night’s broadcast of the 88th annual Academy Awards pulled in the show’s lowest overnight ratings since 2008, according to early Nielsen figures.

ABC’s telecast of the Oscars averaged a 23.1 rating in metered markets. This is down 6 percent from last year’s performance, which was already at a ratings low. In the markets tracked by Nielsen, the Academy Awards earned a 37 percent share of households watching TV during the show’s airtime last night. With adults 18 to 49, the broadcast earned an overnight metered market rating of 13.5, which is down 5 percent from last year.
