Oscars Deliver Most-Watched Telecast in Three Years

BURBANK: ABC’s Academy Awards broadcast drew an average audience of 40.3 million total viewers and delivered a 13.0 rating among adults 18 to 49, making it the most-watched entertainment telecast in three years.

The Oscars increased its overall audience for the second straight year, up 2 percent. With adults 18 to 49 the broadcast was up 11 percent, its best numbers since 2010. Overall it was the Oscars’ second-most-watched broadcast since 2005.

The ceremony topped the other awards shows this year, beating the Golden Globes by 20.6 million viewers and 103 percent in adults 18 to 49 and the Grammy Awards by 11.9 million viewers and 29 percent in the 18-to-49 demo.

According to Social Guide, there were 6.4 million tweets about the Oscars with 1.6 million unique users. This overall activity outpaced last year by 68 percent.
