Nurse Jackie Renewed for Season Six

NEW YORK: Showtime has renewed the comedy Nurse Jackie, which stars Edie Falco as a brilliant but flawed ER nurse, for a sixth season, which will premiere in 2014.

The series, a co-production of Showtime and Lionsgate, is currently airing in its fifth season on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. The season five finale is set for June 16. The show is currently averaging 3.1 million weekly viewers across platforms, which is 10-percent higher than its prior season through the same time frame.

"Nurse Jackie is an essential part of the Showtime brand, and we are thrilled with the series’ growth in its fifth season," said David Nevins, the president of entertainment at Showtime Networks. "Under the new leadership of Clyde Phillips, and with an amazing cast led by Edie Falco, this show is as sharp and compelling and entertaining as ever. I’m excited to get to see the next chapter in Jackie’s life."
