Newcomers True Detective, Orange Is the New Black Score Emmy Noms

LOS ANGELES: The Netflix comedy Orange Is the New Black and the HBO drama True Detective both notched up 12 nominations in their first time competing for an Emmy, though Game of Thrones led the pack with 19 nods for the 66th annual awards.

By network, HBO had the most nominations, with 99, followed by CBS with 47, NBC with 46, FX with 45 and ABC with 37. Netflix garnered 31 nods and AMC scored 26.

Game of Thrones will face off for the award for outstanding drama with Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Mad Men, True Detective and House of Cards. In the best actor category for drama, both Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey are nominated for True Detective, up against Bryan Cranston for the final season of Breaking Bad, Jeff Daniels for The Newsroom, Jon Hamm for Mad Men and Kevin Spacey for House of Cards. On the female performance side, the nominees are Lizzy Caplan for Masters of Sex, Kerry Washington for Scandal, Michelle Dockery for Downton Abbey, Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, Claire Danes for Homeland and Robin Wright for House of Cards. The supporting nods in the drama category for best actor went to Aaron Paul for Breaking Bad, Jim Carter for Downton Abbey, Peter Dinklage for Game of Thrones, Josh Charles of The Good Wife, Mandy Patinkin of Homeland and Jon Voight for Ray Donovan. For supporting actress in a drama, Breaking Bad's Anna Gunn is nominated alongside Maggie Smith and Joanne Froggatt of Downton Abbey, Lena Headey of Game of Thrones, Christine Baranski for The Good Wife and Christina Hendricks for Mad Men.

The Big Bang Theory, Louie, Modern Family, Orange Is the New Black, Silicon Valley and Veep are all nominated for outstanding comedy. There are a number of familiar faces in the outstanding comedic actress category, with Lena Dunham nominated for Girls, Edie Falco for Nurse Jackie, Julia Louis-Dreyfus for Veep, Melissa McCarthy for Mike & Molly and Amy Poehler for Parks and Recreation, along with first-time nominee Taylor Schilling for Orange Is the New Black. The actors nominated in the comedy category are Louis CK of Louie, Don Cheadle of House of Lies, Ricky Gervais for Derek, Matt LeBlanc for Episodes, William H Macy for Shameless and Jim Parsons for The Big Bang Theory. Supporting actress nods went to Mayim Bialik for The Big Bang Theory, Julie Bowen for Modern Family, Allison Janney for Mom, Kate Mulgrew for Orange Is the New Black, Kate McKinnon for Saturday Night Live and Anna Chlumsky for Veep. Supporting actor nominations went to Andre Braugher for Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Adam Driver for Girls, Jesse Tyler Ferguson for Modern Family, Ty Burrell for Modern Family, Fred Armisen for Portlandia and Tony Hale for Veep.

American Horror Story: Coven is nominated for outstanding TV miniseries, competing in the category with Bonnie & Clyde, Fargo, Luther, Treme and The White Queen. The TV-movie nominees are Killing Kennedy, Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight, The Normal Heart  , Sherlock: His Last Vow and The Trip to Bountiful. The actresses nominated for their leading roles in a TV miniseries or movie are Helena Bonham Carter for Burton and Taylor, Jessica Lange for American Horror Story: Coven, Minnie Driver for Return to Zero, Sarah Paulson for American Horror Story: Coven, Cicely Tyson for The Trip to Bountiful and Kristen Wiig for The Spoils of Babylon. The lead actor nominees in that category are Benedict Cumberbatch for Sherlock: His Last Vow, Idris Elba for Luther, Chiwetel Ejiofor for Dancing On the Edge, Martin Freeman for Fargo, Billy Bob Thornton for Fargo and Mark Ruffalo for The Normal Heart. A trio of actresses from American Horror Story: Coven are nominated for their supporting roles, Frances Conroy, Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett. These ladies are up against Allison Tolman for Fargo, Ellen Burstyn for Flowers in the Attic and Julia Roberts for The Normal Heart. The supporting actor category for TV miniseries or movie is dominated by The Normal Heart, with Jim Parsons, Joe Mantello, Alfred Molina and Matt Bomer all nominated. Also among those nominees are Colin Hanks for Fargo and Martin Freeman for Sherlock: His Last Vow.

Betty White is nominated for outstanding reality show host for Betty White’s Off Their Rockers, alongside Tom Bergeron for Dancing With the Stars, Jane Lynch for Hollywood Game Night, Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn for Project Runway, Cat Deeley for So You Think You Can Dance and Anthony Bourdain for The Taste. Up for the win for reality show competition are The Amazing Race, Dancing With the Stars, Project Runway, So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef and The Voice. The nominees for outstanding variety, music or comedy series are The Colbert Report, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Real Time with Bill Maher, Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The winners will be announced August 25 in a live broadcast from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
