SILVER SPRING: Sara Burns, the program director for Investigation Discovery, has been upped to VP of programming for that network and American Heroes Channel.

In her new role, effective immediately, Burns will be responsible for optimizing the networks’ program schedules while collaborating across multiple departments, especially with the development teams, to maximize content, guide programming needs and support strategic growth. With ID, the exec will manage 18 upcoming series launches in 4Q 2014 alone. In her newly added role with AHC, Burns will also manage that channel’s day-to-day scheduling and long-range program-planning strategy. She will continue to operate out of Silver Spring.

Burns has worked at ID since the channel’s launch in 2008, most recently as programming director and previously as manager of programming for ID and Military Channel. As part of the team that oversees program strategy for ID, Burns helped launch its programs and is the leader of the creative titling committee credited with generating ID’s program titles.

“Sara’s passion for television and dedication to super-serving viewers are evident every step of the way in her involvement with the entire shelf life of a program, from pitch to premiere,” said Kevin Bennett, the general manager of Investigation Discovery and American Heroes Channel. “We are thankful to have Sara take on additional responsibilities with American Heroes Channel, where her past oversight of programming for Military Channel will make the transition a smooth and welcome one.”
