Netflix Wins Big at SAG Awards

LOS ANGELES: Netflix scored wins in three categories, the most of any network, at the 21st annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards last night.

The Netflix original Orange Is the New Black won for best ensemble in a comedy, also scoring an individual nod for actress Uzo Aduba. Netflix's House of Cards scored a nod for Kevin Spacey, who received the award for outstanding performance by an actor in a drama series.

Also in the performance categories, best actor in a comedy was William H. Macy, for Shameless, while best actress in a drama was Viola Davis for How to Get Away with Murder. Downton Abbey was honored for best drama series cast. In the movie/miniseries categories, Mark Ruffalo won for The Normal Heart and Frances McDormand won for Olive Kitteridge. The premium drama Game of Thrones was recognized for its stunt ensemble.

For motion pictures, the cast of Birdman won the night's top award. Actor Eddie Redmayne was honored for his work in The Theory of Everything, while Julianne Moore won for best actress for Still Alice. Supporting wins went to J.K. Simmons for Whiplash and Patricia Arquette for Boyhood. The award for stunt ensemble was presented to Unbroken.

Carrie Fisher presented her mother Debbie Reynolds with the union's highest honor, the 51st Annual Life Achievement Award, following a filmed salute.

SAG Awards are selected entirely by 111,228 performers’ peers in SAG-AFTRA.
