NEW YORK: The new action-adventure series Crossbones, set in the golden age of pirates, has been given a ten-episode order from NBC for production to begin in the fall.

The series comes from Neil Cross, the creator of Luther, and the producing team of Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (Gladiator, Men in Black, The Ring). Crossbones is set in 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence, the first functioning democracy in the Americas. A diabolical pirate, Edward Teach (aka Blackbeard), reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. To gain control of the society, a highly skilled undercover assassin, Tom Lowe, is sent in to take out Blackbeard.
