Modern Family, Boardwalk Empire Lead SAG TV Noms

LOS ANGELES: The comedy Modern Family garnered five nominations for the 18th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG), while in drama, last year’s winner, Boardwalk Empire, had another strong showing.

Modern Family won last year’s SAG Award for ensemble comedy, and this year it faces off in the category with 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, Glee and The Office. Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet are both nominated in the male comedy category, where they are up against Steve Carell for The Office, Jon Cryer of Two and a Half Men and Alec Baldwin of 30 Rock, who won last year. On the female side, Modern Family‘s Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara are nominated, alongside Edie Falco for Nurse Jackie, Tina Fey for 30 Rock and last year’s winner, Betty White for Hot in Cleveland.

Boardwalk Empire took the win last year for ensemble drama. The show is again nominated in the category, this time against Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Dexter and The Good Wife. Boardwalk‘s Steve Buscemi will go for a second win in the male performance category. His contenders are Patrick Adams of Suits, Kyle Chandler of Friday Night Lights, Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad and Michael C. Hall for Dexter. Female leads up for the drama win are Kathy Bates for Harry’s Law, Glenn Close for Damages, Jessica Lange for American Horror Story, Kyra Sedgwick for The Closer and Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, who won last year’s award.

In the way of TV movie/mini-series, male nominees are Laurence Fishburne for Thurgood, Paul Giamatti for Too Big to Fail, Greg Kinnear for The Kennedys, Guy Pearce for Mildred Pierce and James Woods for Too Big to Fail. The female nominees are Diane Lane for Cinema Verite, Maggie Smith for Downton Abbey, Emily Watson for Appropriate Adult, Betty White for The Lost Valentine and Kate Winslet for Mildred Pierce.

The SAG Awards will be broadcast January 29 on TNT/TBS.
