Mark Burnett’s Lucha Underground Returns for a Third Season

AUSTIN: The Lucha Libre wrestling series Lucha Underground, which is executive produced by Mark Burnett, has been renewed for a third season on El Rey Network.

Production on the upcoming season will begin immediately in Los Angeles’s Boyle Heights neighborhood. The premiere is slated for early next year. Lucha Underground is an original weekly series that introduces American audiences to the wrestling techniques of Lucha Libre, one of the most popular sports in Mexico.

Lucha Underground has caught fire by developing a loyal and passionate fan base,” said Robert Rodriguez, chairman and founder of the 24-hour English-language channel El Rey Network. “I am proud that its home is El Rey Network, and we’re excited to announce a season three return for even more no-holds-barred action.”

“I am so excited that the fans will be able to continue to enjoy the incredible action and stories,” added Burnett.

Season two made its debut on El Rey Network on January 27. It airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m.

The series is produced by MGM in association with FactoryMade Ventures and AG Studios for El Rey Network. It is distributed internationally by MGM Television Group. Along with Burnett, other executive producers on the series are showrunner Eric Van Wagenen and Brian Edwards of MGM, Dorian Roldán from Lucha Libre AAA, Alejandro Garcia, Antonio Cué Sánchez-Navarro, Rodriguez, FactoryMade Ventures and El Rey Network co-founders John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa, and Skip Chaisson of Skip Films and El Rey Network.
