NEW YORK: In an effort to combine all content creation under one department, Comedy Central has elevated Ken Alterman, who previously served as the network’s head of original programming and production, to president of content development and original programming.

In his new role, Alterman will manage the development and production of original content across all platforms produced by brand. He will also supervise Comedy Central’s Talent and Specials team, which looks for new comedy stars and produces the network’s stand-up series and specials as well as event programming. In addition, Alterman will work with Comedy Central’s Enterprises division to increase the brand’s talent partnerships and initiatives across various brand extensions. He will continue to work out of the Santa Monica office and will report to Michele Ganeless, the network’s president.

As Comedy Central’s head of original programming and production, Alterman was in charge of the development and day-to-day operations of all original programming on the network’s linear channel. He had re-joined the company in 2010 after spending some time producing and directing projects for a number of companies.

"Kent’s relationships with the creative community run deep and his track record in working with and developing strong, unique comedic voices is unparalleled in the comedy world," said Doug Herzog, the president of Viacom Media Networks Entertainment Group.

"In consolidating all content development under Kent’s direction, Comedy Central is breaking the wall between linear, digital and social development, with a strategic vision that great content is great content, no matter what platform," remarked Ganeless.

Alterman added: "I couldn’t be more excited to continue my relationship with Comedy Central. I couldn’t be less excited either. I really feel I have the perfect level of excitement for this job."
