Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin to Star in Latest Netflix Original Series

BEVERLY HILLS: Actresses Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are set to co-star in Grace and Frankie, a new original sitcom for Netflix from the creator of Friends.

The 13×30-minute comedy from Skydance Productions is scheduled to premiere on the online network next year. Marta Kauffman, one of the co-creators of Friends, wrote and created the new show, along with Howard J. Morris. Kauffman, Morris, Fonda and Tomlin will exec produce with Paula Weinstein and Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross.

The single-camera comedy follows nemeses Grace (Fonda) and Frankie (Tomlin) after their husbands announce they are in love with each other and plan to get married. Finding their lives turned upside down, the women realize that they have each other.

Two-time Oscar winner Fonda recently starred on HBO’s The Newsroom, picking up an Emmy nomination for her appearance on that show. Oscar-nominated Tomlin recently won an Emmy for the HBO film An Apology to Elephants, which she co-executive produced and narrated.

“Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are among the funniest and most formidable actresses ever, and it’s an incredible privilege to give them the opportunity to run riot on Netflix,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix’s chief content officer. “The show created for them by Marta and Howard is warm, very funny and anything but wholesome. We can’t wait.”
