IFC Greenlights Scripted Comedy Benders

NEW YORK: IFC has given the go-ahead to Benders, a scripted comedy series that is set to be produced by Denis Leary and Jim Serpico's Apostle.

Benders, which was formerly in development as Uncle Chubby's, will follow a group of friends who share a passion for hockey. IFC has ordered eight half-hour episodes that are slated to begin production this spring for broadcast on the network in late 2015. Leary, Serpico and Tom Sellitti will serve as exec producers.

Jennifer Caserta, IFC's president, stated: "Benders is exactly the type of fresh, original comedy that complements our existing programming slate. Hockey knowledge not required, these guys are all about their beer and their bros. We're also excited to continue our relationship with Apostle, they have been a great creative partner for us on Maron."
