NEW YORK: Hearst has acquired a majority interest in Litton Entertainment, which produces and distributes a variety of scripted and unscripted content, including kids’ programming.

Litton Entertainment specializes in educational-and-informational television production and syndication, and is a leading provider to channels focused on the family-entertainment category. Among the company’s production credits are series for NBC’s The More You Know franchise. The transaction, the terms of which were not revealed, is expected to close by the end of the month.

“Litton is built on the standards of excellence I experienced during my time at Hearst,” said Dave Morgan, Litton Entertainment’s founder, president and CEO. “I’m coming home to a company that delivers content that positively impacts the community, mirroring the pro-social principles we’ve innovated at Litton. Pete Sniderman [Litton’s COO] and I deeply admire the leadership of Hearst. Together, we will do great things.”

“We’ve known Dave since the early days of his career with Hearst and have admired the first-class brand of Litton Entertainment that he and his team have built over the years,” added Jordan Wertlieb, Hearst Television’s president. “Providing quality, family-friendly programming to viewers is an important tenet of Hearst Television and adding Litton’s assets and expertise to our company through this partnership will be a terrific complement to our business.”
