HBO, Netflix Lead Golden Globe TV Nominations

The nominees for the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards have been unveiled, with Big Little Lies notching up the most nominations in the TV category, followed by Feud: Bette and Joan.

By network, HBO leads with 12 nominations, followed by Netflix with 9, FX with 8 and NBC and Showtime with 5 each.

Competing for the award for best TV drama are The Crown, Game of Thrones, The Handmaid’s Tale, Stranger Things and This Is Us. The performance categories for TV drama include Caitriona Balfe (Outlander), Claire Foy (The Crown), Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Deuce), Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why) and Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale). The male nominees are Jason Bateman (Ozark), Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us), Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) and Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan).

The nominees for best musical or comedy series are Will & Grace, Master of None, black-ish, SMILF and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The best actress nominees for TV comedy or musical are Issa Rae (Insecure), Alison Brie (GLOW), Pamela Adlon (Better Things), Frankie Shaw (SMILF) and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel). In the actor arena for the genre are Aziz Ansari (Master of None), Anthony Anderson (black-ish), Eric McCormack (Will & Grace), Kevin Bacon (I Love Dick) and William H. Macy (Shameless).

Big Little Lies and Feud are both contenders for best TV movie or limited series, alongside Fargo, The Sinner and Top of the Lake: China Girl. The best actress nominees in that category are Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies), Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies), Jessica Lange (Feud: Bette and Joan), Susan Sarandon (Feud: Bette and Joan) and Jessica Biel (The Sinner). The best actor nominees in the TV movie/limited series arena are Robert De Niro (The Wizard of Lies), Ewan McGregor (Fargo), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks), Geoffrey Rush (Genius) and Jude Law (The Young Pope). Supporting nods went to Laura Dern (Big Little Lies), Chrissy Metz (This Is Us), Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies) and Michelle Pfeiffer (Wizard of Lies), and on the male performance side Alexander Skarsgard (Big Little Lies), David Thewlis (Fargo), Alfred Molina (Feud: Bette and Joan), David Harbour (Stranger Things) and Christian Slater (Mr. Robot).

For motion pictures, The Shape of Water leads (7), followed by The Post (6), Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (6) and Lady Bird (4). All the Money in the World, Call Me By Your Name, Dunkirk, The Greatest Showman and I, Tonya each scored three nods.
