HBO Dominates Golden Globe TV Nominations

UNIVERSAL CITY: HBO scored 17 nominations for the Golden Globe Awards, as its TV movie Game Change was the most-nominated program, with five nods in total.

Showtime came in a distant second with seven nominations, followed by ABC with five and CBS, NBC and PBS scoring four each. AMC landed three nods, while FOX, FX, HISTORY and USA had two each. BBC America, DIRECTV and Starz scored single nominations.

For TV drama, the nominees are Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey: Season 2, Homeland and The Newsroom. In the comedy category, The Big Bang Theory faces off with Episodes, Girls, Modern Family and Smash. Game Change will vie for the win for best mini-series/TV movie against The Girl, Hatfields & McCoys, The Hour and Political Animals.

Performance nods in the drama category went to Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire, Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad, Jeff Daniels for The Newsroom, Jon Hamm for Mad Men and Damian Lewis for Homeland. Actresses recognized in the category are Connie Briton for Nashville, Glenn Close for Damages, Claire Danes for Homeland, Michelle Dockery for Downton Abbey and Juliana Margulies for The Good Wife. In the comedy arena, 30 Rock‘s Alec Baldwin, House of Lies‘ Don Cheadle, Louie‘s Louis C.K., Episodes‘ Matt LeBlanc and The Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons are all up for awards. The female comedic leads competing for the top honors are Zooey Deschanel for New Girl, Julia Louis-Dreyfus for Veep, Lena Dunham for Girls, Tina Fey for 30 Rock and Amy Poehler for Parks and Recreation. The nominees for best actor in a TV movie/mini-series are Kevin Costner for Hatfields & McCoys, Benedict Cumberbatch for Sherlock, Woody Harrelson for Game Change, Toby Jones for The Girl and Clive Owen for Hemingway & Gellhorn. In the same category, the best actress nominees are Nicole Kidman for Hemingway & Gellhorn, Jessica Lange for American Horror Story: Asylum, Sienna Miller for The Girl, Julianne Moore for Game Change and Sigourney Weaver for Political Animals. Supporting nods went to Max Greenfield for New Girl, Ed Harris for Game Change, Danny Huston for Magic City, Mandy Patinkin for Homeland and Eric Stonestreet for Modern Family. Female supporting nominees are Hayden Panettiere for Nashville, Archi Panjabi for The Good Wife, Sarah Paulson for Game Change, Maggie Smith for Downton Abbey and Sofia Vergara for Modern Family.

For motion pictures, Lincoln scored the most nominations with seven, followed by Argo and Django Unchained with five. Silver Linings Playbook, Les MisérablesZero Dark Thirty each scored four.
