FOX Adds Five New Series

LOS ANGELES: FOX has unveiled its first selections for the 2012-13 season, including the serial-killer drama The Following, starring Kevin Bacon.

From writer-producer Kevin Williamson, The Following will star Bacon and James Purefoy. The project, from Warner Bros. Television and Outerbanks Entertainment, is about an ex-FBI agent who is on a search for a diabolical serial killer.

FOX also picked up the Sony project Mob Doctor, which stars Jordana Spiro and William Forsythe. The series will follow a young female surgeon who is balancing her career and her lifelong debt to the South Chicago mob.

The network has a trio of comedies coming its way: Ben & Kate, about a young man who moves in with his uptight sister to help raise her child; It’s Messy, from The Office‘s Mindy Kaling; and The Goodwin Games, following three kids who must reconnect in order to meet their terms of their father’s will and get their inheritance.

Meanwhile, the network cancelled J.J. Abrams’ drama Alcatraz and the Bones spinoff The Finder. Touch, from Tim Kring and Kiefer Sutherland, did land a renewal.
