Four Weddings and a Funeral Series Among MGM Highlights

MGM Worldwide Television Distribution has two new scripted shows, including the Four Weddings and a Funeral anthology series, and two new feature films launching at MIPCOM.

Inspired by the 1994 British romantic comedy film Four Weddings and a Funeral, the 10×1-hour series is written by Mindy Kaling and Matt Warburton. It will follow a group of friends as their lives intersect through five events. Kaling and Warburton, who teamed up together for The Mindy Project, will also executive produce alongside Jonathan Prince, Howard Klein (3 Arts), Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner (Working Title).

Our Lady, LTD is a 10×1-hour modern noir drama series that follows James, a young grafter, as he attempts to prey upon Pastor Byron Brown (Sir Ben Kingsley), who turns out to be far more dangerous than he suspects. The series also stars Westworld’s Jimmi Simpson and Jacki Weaver.

Based on the European best-selling novel by Jöel Dicker, the 10×1-hour event series The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair stars Patrick Dempsey as literary icon Harry Quebert, who suddenly finds himself indicted for murder after the body of a young girl who has been missing for many years is found buried on his property.

Further series highlights include Condor, inspired by the critically acclaimed film Three Days of the Condor; Get Shorty, a dark comedy inspired by Elmore Leonard’s best-selling novel; and The Contender, hosted by retired undefeated boxing champion Andre Ward.

As for films, the animated action-comedy The Addams Family is based on the famous New Yorker creations of Charles Addams. The Girl in the Spider’s Web is a first-time adaptation of the recent global bestseller that is being made available in select markets. Creed II marks the next chapter in the Adonis Creed story. Fighting with My Family and The Hustle round out the slate.

Chris Ottinger, president of worldwide television distribution and acquisitions at MGM, said: “MGM is proud to continue its legacy as an industry leader in award-winning premium content across both scripted and unscripted series and formats, and feature films, with tremendous appeal to audiences worldwide. We are fortunate to have an exceptional talent pool involved in the creation of our titles and we look forward to launching them at MIPCOM.”
