LOS ANGELES: Discovery Channel has appointed seasoned TV producer Matthew Vafiadis as VP of current production.

In his new position, Vafiadis will manage Discovery’s current productions while continuing to build the network’s returning series. He will work out of Los Angeles under Chris Rantamaki, Discovery Channel’s senior VP of production and development.

Vafiadis previously served as senior VP of production and development at Relativity Television’s Ellen Rakieten Entertainment. Before that, he was an exec producer for BBC Worldwide and a successful showrunner for several years. Throughout his career, he has produced shows for such networks as ABC, Discovery, HISTORY and Esquire.

“Matt is a creative producer with experience developing and overseeing a diverse slate of network and cable series,” said Rantamaki. “We are thrilled to have him join our team and bring a fresh vision.”
