EL SEGUNDO: DIRECTV has secured the rights for the BBC Three comedy Uncle, due out on the Audience Network in the U.S. this October.

The series follows the misadventures of a thirtysomething man named Andy (Nick Helm) who forges an unlikely alliance with his neurotic 12-year-old nephew Erroll (Elliot Speller-Gillott). DIRECTV acquired the comedy from BBC Worldwide North America and has scheduled to debut it October 14 at 8:30 p.m. Lindsay Hughes and Henry Normal exec produce for Baby Cow Productions.

Uncle is another original, funny and at times excoriatingly awkward but ultimately warm comedy from Baby Cow,” said Matt Forde, the executive VP of sales and co-productions at BBC Worldwide North America. “I am sure that U.S. audiences are going to fall in love with Andy and Errol.”

“We are excited to add Uncle, a series that is both hilarious and endearing, to Audience Network’s diverse programming lineup,” said Chris Long, the senior VP of original content and programming for DIRECTV. “We recently announced our first foray into producing an original comedy series and we think Uncle will wonderfully complement our inaugural effort.”
