CBS Sports Digital Buying Scout Media

NEW YORK: CBS Sports Digital has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Scout Media, which filed for bankruptcy a few months back.

Scout will become part of CBS Sports Digital’s multiplatform offerings, which include CBSSports.com and the CBS Sports apps for mobile and connected TV devices, as well as 247Sports, MaxPreps, CBS Sports fantasy games and SportsLine. Scout will focus on sports teams and recruiting coverage, complementing 247Sports’ network of college and professional team sites and its subscription recruiting information services.

“We are very pleased to bring Scout Media into the CBS Sports Digital family and add their portfolio of team coverage to our premium, team-focused content offerings driven by 247Sports,” said Jeffrey Gerttula, the senior VP and general manager of CBS Sports Digital. “This acquisition will fit perfectly into our goal to provide engaging content, from the national to the team level, for sports fans, and will enable us to deliver more value to individual team fan bases across all screens and devices, as well as create exciting cross-platform advertising opportunities.”

“Our robust team-focused model, featuring a deep roster of national and regional insiders and analysts, will now be even stronger with the addition of Scout,” said Shannon Terry, the founder and CEO of 247Sports. “Scout’s talented group of publishers and highly engaging, team-specific content will be a significant asset as we continue to grow and expand our audience of passionate fans and deliver a more extensive product offering to our members.”
