Breaking Bad, The Americans Receive Top TCA Honors

BEVERLY HILLS: The Television Critics Association (TCA) recognized Breaking Bad as this season’s program of the year at its annual awards, also honoring the FX freshman drama The Americans for outstanding new program.

HBO’s Game of Thrones was awarded for outstanding achievement in drama. The series won the program of the year award at last year’s event. BBC America’s Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany was honored with the award for individual achievement in drama.

The comedy category was split, with wins going to CBS’s The Big Bang Theory and NBC’s Parks and Recreation. Louis C.K., the star of FX’s Louie, took the award for individual achievement in comedy for the second year in a row.

HBO’s Behind the Candelabra came out on top in the category for outstanding achievement in movies, miniseries and specials. ABC’s Shark Tank was the winner for outstanding achievement in reality programming.

TCA recognized ABC Family’s Bunheads for outstanding achievement in youth programming. The PBS documentary The Central Park Five won for outstanding achievement in news and information.

This year’s heritage award was given to the classic sitcom All in the Family, recognizing its cultural and social impact.

Barbara Walters was honored with a career achievement award for her influence in covering news and information.

“These were not easy choices for our membership because there were so many deserving nominees,” said TCA president Candace Havens. “In a year that saw a lot of great television, the TCA Awards winners represent the best of the best.”
