LOS ANGELES/NEW YORK: Filming has begun in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on the four-hour, two-night event Bonnie & Clyde, which stars Emile Hirsch and Holliday Grainger in the title roles.

Hirsch (Into the Wild) and Grainger (The Borgias) will depict the notorious Depression-era outlaw couple in the mini-series, which will be simulcast on HISTORY and Lifetime. The cast also boasts Holly Hunter (The Piano) and William Hurt (Too Big to Fail). Sony Pictures Television is producing, with executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Steel Magnolias, Chicago) attached. The project is penned by John Rice and Joe Batteer (Windtalkers, Blown Away) and directed by Bruce Beresford, who is best know as the director of Driving Miss Daisy.

“Love and bullets are such a dangerous combination—and the basis of fascinating storytelling,” said Nancy Dubuc, the president of entertainment and media at A+E Networks. “The legendary journey of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow took America by storm during the 1930s and eight decades later they continue to captivate, creating an unprecedented opportunity to deliver an amazing story to both our powerhouse networks HISTORY and Lifetime.”
