Boardwalk Empire, Homeland, Game of Thrones Score Golden Globe TV Noms

UNIVERSAL CITY: HBO notched up 18 nominations for the 69th annual Golden Globe Awards, with its hit dramas Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones both scoring nods, while Showtime followed with 8 nominations, including 3 for Homeland.

Nominated for best drama series are American Horror Story, Boardwalk Empire, Boss, Game of Thrones and Homeland. Damian Lewis of Homeland is nominated in the category for best performance by an actor in a TV drama. The other nominees are Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire, Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad, Kelsey Grammer for Boss and Jeremy Irons for The Borgias. Best actress nominees in the category are Claire Danes for Homeland, Mireille Enos for The Killing, Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, Madeleine Stowe for Revenge and Callie Thorne for Necessary Roughness.

The freshman FOX series New Girl scored a nod in the best TV comedy category, alongside Modern Family, Glee, Episodes and Enlightened. Alec Baldwin of 30 Rock, David Duchovny of Californication, Johnny Galecki of The Big Bang Theory, Thomas Jane of Hung and Matt LeBlanc of Episodes will face off for the male comedic performance award. Females nominated in the category are Laura Dern for Enlightened, Zooey Deschanel for New Girl, Tina Fey for 30 Rock, Laura Linney for The Big C and Amy Poehler for Parks and Recreation.

Up for the award in the mini-series/TV movie category are HBO’s Too Big to Fail, Mildred Pierce and Cinema Verite, alongside PBS’s Downton Abbey and BBC America’s The Hour. Performance nods went to Hugh Bonneville for Downton Abbey, Idris Elba for Luther, William Hurt for Too Big to Fail, Billy Nighy for Page Eight and Dominic West for The Hour on the male side. On the female side, the nominees are Romola Garai for The Hour, Diane Lane for Cinema Verite, Elizabeth McGovern for Downton Abbey, Emily Watson for Appropriate Adult and Kate Winslet for Mildred Pierce.

Overall, Downton Abbey and Mildred Piece scored the most nods in the TV categories, both with four. Boardwalk Empire, Cinema Verite, Homeland, The Hour, Modern Family and Too Big to Fail each had three. 30 Rock, American Horror Story, Boss, Enlightened, Episodes, Game of Thrones and New Girl each drew two nominations. The rest were all single nominations.
